Issue #2-Sharing Medicine
Recently a patient in Missoula obtained medicine legally from their caregiver and, shortly after leaving the store front, began to medicate in the car. At some point, the patient passed his medicine to non patients. He was charged with a felony to distribute illegal drugs. It is illegal for licensed patients to share their medicine with anyone who is not licensed. How can we get this message to patients?

We have to remember, this is MEDICAL Cannabis. In the medical industry, folks do NOT share their medications. Diabetics do not share needles, and codeine cough syrup is not swigged and passed.
ReplyDeleteThink about it this way as well. These folks are really sick. Do YOU want to essentially "kiss" them when you share a pipe with them? For a sick cancer patient with a poor immune system, that could spell death.
Stress medical and represent accordingly. Actions speak and correcting others, ESPECIALLY in public. We have to protect this industry. Bring integrity, credibility.
Wow - we have our work cut out for us huh?
It's a felony if I give my ritalin to anyone else...that's a message I understand!
ReplyDeleteIt's a no brainer really.
ReplyDeleteHow could you not know that sharing your Medical Marijuana with a non patient or even another patient is a federal crime. Even if you use your own medicine in glacier national park you are in violation of Federal law.
The best way to get the message out to people who do not want to do the research on their own is to have their caregivers explain in detail the law in Montana and Federal law. And/Or make a web site available that is simple for everyone to read and understand with message boards and FAQ's.. I feel at this point it is just as much the responsibility of the caregiver as the patient to make sure the Law is followed and understood.
